Balachandran M, an accomplished banking professional with a career spanning 37 years, has significantly contributed to the banking sector in India and abroad. With over 33 years of service at Bank of Baroda, he held various crucial positions, culminating as the Chief Executive for the bank’s American operations based in New York. Following his tenure at Bank of Baroda, he assumed leadership roles at Bank of India, ultimately retiring as its Chairman and Managing Director in 2007. His expertise is diversified, specializing in Agriculture and SME, Corporate and International Banking, and Human Resource Management. Notably, Mr. Balachandran was instrumental in founding the Star Union Dai Ichi Life Insurance Co., a notable joint venture involving Bank of India, Union Bank, and Dai Ichi Life Insurance Co. of Japan, where he served as the founding Chairman for three years until 2011.

In addition to his executive roles, Mr. Balachandran held key ex-officio positions, such as Chairman of BOI Shareholding Co. and Bank of Baroda (Guyana) Inc. (South America). He also served as a director on the boards of significant financial entities, including Indo Zambia Bank Ltd., Nabard Consultancy Services, Agricultural Finance Corporation Ltd., and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).
